Internet service provider Demon Business Broadband has urged UK companies to better prepare themselves for disasters - and the rising popularity of flexible working.
Demon claims that almost nine out of ten businesses experienced some level of disruption in the past year - not least because of the severe winter, transport strikes and health scares.
However, Matt Cantwell, head of the business broadband bundle provider, said disasters can be easily averted if broadband customers implement better flexible working practices.
"Our research found that many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still behind the curve in terms of remote working technology, but it's one of the easiest and most cost effective ways of introducing a business continuity strategy," he claimed.
He said that, as well as offering calm in the face of a crisis, flexible working practices are becoming an expected part of modern employment and can be used to boost morale and engagement.
Mr Cantwell concluded that access to a high-speed broadband internet connection was the cornerstone of any flexible working policy.
