The arrival of high-speed broadband in Malvern will help local businesses and potentially encourage other firms to move to the area, it has been claimed.
Simon Smith, Economic Development Manager at Malvern Hills District Council, said high-speed web services will provide a real boost to the Worcestershire town's economy.
BT has announced that 14,800 homes and businesses in Malvern will receive fibre broadband connections by the end of 2012.
Mr Smith commented: "If someone is coming here they want to be reassured they are going to be able to access decent broadband.
"I understand that banks now do actually look at the availability of broadband when they look at agreeing loans to business expansion, so it is part of a picture where people want to see what's available in an area."
BT's fibre-to-the-cabinet broadband services will be able to provide download speeds of up to 40Mb when deployed, potentially rising to 60Mb in the future.
