Villagers in three remote Welsh communities are set for a major broadband boost, it has been reported.

In a joint venture, network operator FibreSpeed and internet service provider AB Internet are to provide wireless broadband services in Ysceifiog, Babell, Lixwm and the surrounding countryside.

Homes and businesses in northern Wales will be able to take advantage of Wi-Fi broadband offering download speeds of up to 6Mb.

The latest development will be an extension to the wireless broadband network already serving residents in Graigfechan.

Darren Road, Managing Director at AB Internet, commented that the Ysceifiog Project "ticked every box".

He explained the importance of the small team of dedicated locals "who have made it their business to bring broadband to the area".

In addition, Mr Road pointed to strong local demand for high-speed broadband - as evidenced by pre-orders - and proactive support from Flintshire County Council.

As part of its Digital Wales Delivery Plan, the Welsh Assembly Government recently outlined plans to deliver improved broadband services to rural areas of the principality.
