Mobile broadband news

Wider availability of high-speed mobile broadband services could make a big difference to businesses in Wales, it has been claimed.

Rhodri Williams of Ofcom told the Western Mail that dongle services can help businesses in the principality become more competitive.

The communications regulator's Director for Wales said businesspeople need to be able to access broadband services wherever they are, not merely in the office.

"Being able to do business on the move is a prerequisite of international competitiveness," he told the news provider.

Mr Williams expressed hope that the forthcoming 4G spectrum auction will bring about the greater availability of mobile broadband services in Wales.

"We would expect that it will be used by current mobile operators and possibly new entrants to the market to provide high-speed mobile data coverage," he stated.

Ofcom is set to auction off the 800MHz and 2.6GHz frequency bands, enabling internet service providers to extend their networks.
