Hyperoptic has become the first broadband provider to make 1Gb broadband speeds commercially available in the UK.
The company has launched its first ultra-fast installation at Prices Court, Wandsworth, London, with broadband services now live.
Residents of the 133-flat riverside development are able to enjoy the benefits of fibre broadband delivered directly to the premises.
BT was hoping to become the first broadband provider to launch a 1Gb service in the UK, but the telecoms giant may now have to settle for second place.
Boris Ivanovic, Chairman of Hyperoptic, said the firm aimed to keep customers at the heart of its offering.
"We've gauged that many areas of the city felt they've been excluded in the fibre conversation and were naturally frustrated by this," he stated.
"This makes Prices Court a perfect start for us and we'll continue to focus our energies in the capital over the coming months as we establish our brand and footprint."
Hyperoptic is planning to roll out its 1Gb services to large residential and commercial properties across London, before moving to other UK cities in 2012.
Battersea, Docklands, Holborn, Shepherds Bush, Vauxhall and Westminster will be among the areas to benefit from 1Gb fibre broadband.
