Nicholas Soames, MP for Mid Sussex, has welcomed Ofcom's proposal to increase broadband access to 98 per cent of the population.
Mr Soames, who has been a notable campaigner for broadband in rural areas, said Ofcom's recent announcement of plans which will ensure 98 per cent of Britons have access to 4G mobile broadband will be a massive boost to both individuals and businesses.
“This investment will transform the fortunes of thousands of small and medium sized businesses, currently hamstrung by inadequate mobile phone and internet coverage," he told the Mid Sussex Times.
“Hundreds of thousands of homes, schools, farms and businesses will get access to decent mobile and internet coverage for the first time."
He added that in Mid Sussex the move will help boost commerce and create jobs.
Under its proposals, Ofcom has said that telecoms companies buying any of its 800Mhz spectrum packages will have to extend coverage to government-identified not-spots.
