A new maritime broadband solution promises to improve the customer experience for users based on ships and boats, it has been claimed.

Iridium Communications has launched its second-generation broadband platform - Iridium Pilot - which is based on the Iridium OpenPort service.

And according to the firm, this offers fully global marine broadband, reports

Packaged in a small, lightweight antenna, Iridium Pilot is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and maintain connectivity in rough seas.

New capabilities include a built-in firewall for traffic management and a bulk configuration capability, the news provider stated.

The broadband solution comes with a standard five-year limited warranty, helping to protect businesses' investment.

Iridium Communications said the new Pilot solution is designed to be compatible with upcoming satellite broadband technology, meaning it will be supported beyond the end of the decade.
