UK Broadband claims to have launched the first commercial 4G mobile broadband service in Britain.
The firm is using Huawei's Time Division - Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) technology to deliver super-fast services using the 3.5GHz spectrum band in London.
Businesses and residents in the Southbank and Borough areas of Southwark will be able to take advantage of the service from May 2012, ahead of a wider rollout.
Nicholas James, Chief Executive at UK Broadband, said the firm was "very excited" to be switching on the first TD-LTE system in the UK using 4G spectrum.
"We're working with Huawei because we believe they have the expertise and experience we need to deliver the best solution," he commented.
Victor Zhang, Chief Executive at Huawei UK, added that the availability of LTE in the UK will give "a significant boost" to the UK government's broadband agenda.
"We are proud to be involved in this project and are dedicated to supporting UK Broadband and the government to help connect more people to high speed wireless broadband networks," he added.
