BT Openreach's 80Mb broadband upgrade is set to be made available to other UK broadband providers, it has been claimed.
According to ISPreview.co.uk, the firm is set to offer faster services via its fibre-to-the-cabinet platform from this week.
BT Openreach has previously delivered up to 40Mb broadband services over FTTC, but download and upload speeds are now being doubled.
The maximum upload speed available using FTTC is set to rise to 20Mb.
Mike Galvin, Managing Director of Network Investment at BT Openreach, said it is now up to broadband providers to decide how and when they offer these faster speeds to their customers.
"The platform is there and we are confident there will be demand for these enhanced services," he added.
BT is currently investing £2.5 billion upgrading its national telecoms infrastructure to support fibre services.
