The launch of 4G mobile services will deliver a serious broadband speed boost to dongle and tablet users, it has been suggested.

Tom Bennett, Director of Network Services and Device Development at Everything Everywhere, claimed that next-generation services will be at least five times as fast as the 3G equivalent.

Speaking to Recombu Digital, he suggested that 4G data transfers could be up to seven times as fast as existing technology.

"Theoretically, it is possible to reach 4G speeds of up to 100Mbps in lab conditions," Mr Bennett stated.

"However outside of these ideal conditions data speeds can vary due to a number of factors including the number of people using the network, and physical factors such as distance to a mast, building density and geographical terrain."

Earlier this year, a YouGov study commissioned by Everything Everywhere found that 74 per cent of UK adults want 4G services to come to the UK as soon as possible.
