A new update for the Sky+ app on the iPad will allow consumers to turn their device into a remote control, it has been reported.

Users will also be able to view the Sky programme planner on their media tablet without interrupting TV services.

"Later this summer an update to the popular Sky+ app on iPad will enable Sky customers to use their iPad as a remote control, allowing them to pause and rewind content by swiping their iPad screen," Sky explained.

"Sky TV customers with Sky+HD boxes will also be able to view their planner on their iPad, and add or delete shows without interrupting what they are watching on the main TV."

Luke Bradley-Jones, Director of TV Products at Sky, said the TV and broadband provider is "constantly striving" to give customers the best possible viewing experience – whether that is more of the shows they love, or flexibility in how they discover and watch those programmes.

He said the latest announcement demonstrates the "exciting enhancements" to Sky's digital products and illustrates the firm's "continued commitment" to delivering market-leading innovation into millions of homes across the UK, as standard.
