People using satellite broadband

ToowayDirect has boosted the performance of its high-speed satellite broadband packages.

The firm has upgraded its entire Tooway range to offer up to 18Mb download and 6Mb upload speeds to households and businesses.

And to celebrate the launch of the upgrade, the satellite broadband provider is giving away free hardware and a free connection to customers signing up for the top-of-the-range Tooway 18 MAX deal.

The service provider has also launched "more generous" monthly usage allowances, replacing its multi-tier fair access policy with a simpler 'flat rate' network management scheme.

This is designed to give all users better performance through the duration of their monthly data allowance.

ToowayDirect Managing Director Andrew Walwyn said the firm is "obviously very excited" about the product changes.

He added: "Tooway is a great product to be involved with in the first place, but the new parameters catapult the proposition into a different league.

“Once customers get their hands on a Tooway, particularly if they’ve been used to the drudgery of dial-up, they’re usually delighted with performance."

However, Mr Walwyn noted that customer expectations are naturally increasing over time.

He said video-on-demand is becoming increasingly popular, and more and more homes now have several broadband-enabled devices.

This means customers want more performance, Mr Walwyn added.

“I guess this will finally silence the satellite soothsayers who say that satellite internet isn’t fast," he commented.

"I know of no other technology that can deliver this kind of defined, proven broadband service to any location in Europe within just a few days, with a very reasonable outlay."
