Broadband users can take a number of steps to maximise their connection speeds, it has been claimed.

Virgin Media said there are "lots of things" users can do to optimise their connection, including simply rebooting their computer and broadband equipment.

The broadband provider urged subscribers to download and run its free Digital Home Support Hub, and also check their wireless setup.

"Check what and when you are downloading," Virgin Media advised, adding that consumers should look to use Ethernet rather than USB.

If none of this delivers any benefit, broadband subscribers can call their provider's customer support number and speak to a technical expert, the firm added.

"If you're still not getting the speed you think you should be, check out our Help & Support forums," Virgin Media urged.

Earlier this year, Virgin Media announced plans to double the download speeds of customers on its 10Mb, 20Mb, 30Mb and 50Mb broadband deals.
