Around 1,000 households in Jersey can now take advantage of 1Gb fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services, it has been announced.

Channels Islands' broadband provider JT Global said it has exceeded its coverage targets during the initial rollout of ultra-fast services.

Some 15,000 homes have already been passed by the network, with 1,000 able to sign up for FTTH broadband.

Over the next three years, the firm plans to offer FTTH services to 42,000 homes - enabling many islanders to benefit from premium internet services.

Graeme Millar, Chief Executive of JT Global, said the company was "very proud" to be introducing one of the first ubiquitous networks.

"Being recognised as one of the most digitally advanced jurisdictions in the world provides an excellent profile-raising opportunity for the islands as a whole," he claimed.

"Furthermore, to be considered as a pioneering telecom operator is another external recognition of our commitment to putting the Channel Islands on the digital map."
