BT has rolled out high-speed broadband in Dinnington, South Yorkshire, bringing fast connection speeds to homes and businesses in the town.

The investment from BT Openreach, which also covers nearby Askern and Stocksbridge, should significantly boost the local economy, with more than 18,000 householders set to benefit from high-speed internet.

BT Openreach wants to make high-speed broadband available to two-thirds of UK homes and businesses by the end of 2014.

John Anderson, BT’s Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber, described the advent of fibre broadband in Dinnington as a "massive boost" for the local community.

“It will enrich people’s lives and bring a much-needed boost to businesses in these economically challenging times," he said.

Dinnington's businesses and households join more than ten million UK premises which are now passed by one of the fastest growing fibre networks in the world.

From spring 2013 BT hopes to make speeds of 330Mbps commercially available in any area where fibre broadband is in place.
