TalkTalk's first venture into the world of sports broadcasting was a resounding success, the firm's Communications Director has claimed.

Mark Schmid said he was "very pleased" with the number of customers who tuned into watch Ricky Hatton's boxing return.

The fight was aired as an exclusive free gift for TalkTalk's YouView customers on Saturday November 24th.

"Our first screening of a major sporting venture on Saturday got a great response," Mr Schmid claimed.

As such, he said consumers should look out for news of more great TV content from TalkTalk in the near future.

However, Mr Schmid conceded that he had wrongly predicted the outcome of the Hatton comeback bout.

'The Hitman' was floored by Ukrainian opponent Vyacheslav Senchenko in the penultimate round, after being struck by a stinging body shot.

Mr Schmid said Hatton had made "a valiant effort" following three years out of the ring, and may even have been heading towards a points victory.
