Virgin Media is delivering a free broadband speed upgrade to subscribers in the Dorset town of Poole.

The broadband provider said local people will have access to some of the fastest speeds in the UK as a result of the network upgrade, reports the Bournemouth Echo.

Customers on a 10Mb tariff will receive 20Mb, 30Mb subscribers will be able to download at up to 60Mb, and 50Mb subscribers will move to 100Mb.

Households currently receiving up to 100Mb download speeds will be boosted to 120Mb - the fastest speeds currently available on Virgin Media's network.

This will allow premium users to take advantage of a full range of online services, including high-bandwidth IPTV and other video applications.

Last year, Virgin Media announced plans to double the broadband speeds of more than four million UK subscribers at no extra charge.

The firm announced an 18-month timetable for the infrastructure work to be completed, with Poole the latest town to benefit from an upgrade.
