Lord Sugar has left his role of non-executive chairman at YouView.

The Amstrad founder joined the organisation - created to develop a universal standard for IPTV set-top boxes in the UK - in 2011 in a bid to speed up delivery to market.

But with YouView now successfully launched, and with thousands of UK households signing up each week, the entrepreneur has decided to focus on other projects.

"My brief from the shareholders was to use my experience in the electronics industry to get the product to market and into the homes of consumers," Lord Sugar stated.

"Having done that successfully, my job is complete and I will now focus my time and attention into my other businesses."

The peer offered thanks to all those involved in the YouView project, including suppliers, staff and shareholders, wishing them success for the future.

A number of service providers - including BT and TalkTalk - now offer IPTV services which use a YouView set-top box.
