The YouView partners are targeting a multi-platform expansion for the internet-TV venture, it has been reported.

According to the Financial Times, a renegotiation of the partnership agreement - which comes to an end in March 2014 - could see YouView extend across a range of devices.

These could potentially include IPTV sets, smartphones and tablet computers.

"The multi-device strategy such as connected TVs is important in particular to the broadcasters," a source told the news provider.

"It has started as a TV set-top box but will evolve into a much bigger platform for us all to use."

The Financial Times noted that almost 400,000 YouView boxes had been sold by the end of March 2013.

BT and TalkTalk are among the service providers offering YouView boxes as part of a broadband and TV bundle.
