TiVo has unveiled a prototype PVR box that it says adds a number of new social features and could represent the next generation of consumer interaction with their pay TV service.
According to the company, its new PVR is designed to help service providers to better deal with the multitude of devices in customers' homes, and help consumers to find and use social networks to share cloud-delivered content through a TiVo interface.
As well as being able to share viewing experiences across social networks, customers will also be able to receive recommendations from different content libraries, explained Joshua Danovitz, TiVo's Vice President for Innovation.
"It is a natural evolution of the TiVo service and one of the cornerstones of an overall TiVo strategy to deliver an experience that delights the consumer on every screen while driving down pay TV operator costs," he added.
No rollout date has been confirmed, but as Virgin Media offers TiVo services through its TV packages, this could be a future possibility for enhancing the customer experience through greater social offerings.
