BT is giving UK consumers who are currently with other broadband providers the opportunity to trial its public Wi-Fi services.

Those who register for the offer at can take advantage of one hour's free Wi-Fi at any BT hotspot.

Consumers have five million to choose from at locations all across the UK, where they can get online with their laptop, tablet or smartphone.

"With no data limits, those signed up can tweet, email, watch their favourite shows, or even compare store prices while searching for the perfect present," BT stated.

"With this great new offer, non-BT customers can make the most of free Wi-Fi whether they are out and about or even staying at a friend's house."

Once registered, consumers will receive a free promotional code by email. Entering this code when logging on at a BT Wi-Fi hotspot will entitle the user to one hour of free access.

The free Wi-Fi offer is running until December 16th, meaning there are still almost two weeks left to take advantage.

BT broadband customers do not need to sign up - they have free BT public Wi-Fi included as part of their subscription.
