Gus Poyet's resurgent Sunderland will target three more vital points this Saturday (January 18th) when they take on Southampton at the Stadium of Light, live on BT Sport.

The Black Cats looked dead and buried a few weeks ago, cut adrift at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table.

However, seven points from the last 12 available have offered renewed hope for the relegation-threatened side.

Sunderland's excellent 4-1 away victory at Fulham last weekend came after a morale-boosting 2-1 win against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.

By contrast, Southampton have endured a difficult run of form of late, sliding down the league table after a strong start to the season.

The Saints have won just two of their last ten league games - however one of these wins came last time out against West Bromwich Albion at St Mary's.

Mauricio Pochettino's side saw off The Baggies 1-0 courtesy of an Adam Lallana strike, consolidating their place in the top half of the Barclays Premier League table.

In their previous league meeting, back in August, Southampton and Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw.

The two sides also met in the Capital One Cup fourth round in early November, with Sunderland - who will reach Wembley if they can avoid defeat to Manchester United in the second leg of their semi-final - running out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Phil Bardsley and Sebastian Larsson.

BT Sport viewers can watch Sunderland v Southampton at 12:45pm on BT Sport 1 this Saturday.

There are plenty of other games to look forward to on BT Sport this weekend, including four matches from Serie A and three from Ligue 1.

Juventus v Sampdoria gets the Italian action underway on at 7:45pm on Saturday evening, before a Sunday January 19th triple-header featuring Udinese v Lazio at 11am, Bologna v Napoli at 2pm and AC Milan v Verona at 7:45pm.

The Saturday game from France's top flight is Bastia v Bordeaux, which airs on BT Sport 1 at 7pm. Fans can also look forward to Reims v Lyon at 1pm on Sunday and Toulouse v Monaco at 4pm.
