The battle between Sky and BT has taken another twist after the former Director of Sky Broadband and Voice Services became Managing Director of BT Sport and TV.
Delia Bushell will make the move after spending 14 years at BSkyB and Sky Italia, during which time she has held a variety of positions, including Director of Broadband and Telephony at BSkyB from 2006 to 2011, which involved taking its new broadband service from launch to more than 3.5 million subscribers.
Before that, she was Managing Director of Sky Ireland, which involved doubling Sky’s subscription growth rate in the Republic between 2005 and 2006, while her early career saw her spend three years as Director of Commercial Affairs for Sky Networks; a role in which she defined the strategy and launch plans for Sky’s Freeview channels as well as directing all commercial activity around Sky One.
In her new role, Ms Bushell will report to BT Consumer Chief Executive John Petter and have responsibility for both BT TV and BT Sport, which will include setting the long-term strategy for both services, ensuring they enhance BT’s broadband business and help BT Consumer to achieve both top and bottom line growth.
She will also be responsible for developing the BT TV platform and the BT Sport channels, as well as for their financial performance, with other tasks including overseeing the development and acquisition of content at BT TV, including premium rights.
"BT is shaking up the UK TV market and I am thrilled to be joining at such an exciting time. Sport may have grabbed the headlines recently but the opportunity is far broader and I look forward to working with the team to build on the successes to date," she commented.
Mr Petter said that Ms Bushell helped Sky to build a "formidable triple play base" and expressed hope that she will help BT to build on its TV and Sport success.
