BT has been forced to apologise after some of its broadband subscribers were left without email access for several days.

According to the broadband provider, a minority of customers were affected by a technical error, which prevented them from logging in to BT Mail.

"We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the problem," BT said.

Speaking to TechWeekEurope, the firm said the issue was related to the migration of millions of email accounts from Yahoo Mail to BT Mail.

This process, which began in 2013, has not been seamless for the firm.

A spokesperson for BT told the news provider that some emails may have been lost, or failed to arrive at their destination, during the outage.

“Access has now been restored for all customers," the representative stated, noting that some users may need to clear the cache in their browser.
