Virgin Media has increased the appeal of its higher-tier TV and broadband packages by offering Sky News and Sky Sports News in high definition.

New and existing customers with a Virgin Media XL TV subscription - with or without internet and calls - can now watch Sky News HD and Sky Sports News HD.

The channels have been added to the firm's XL TV packages at no extra charge.

Stephane David, Executive Director of Content at Virgin Media, said: "The addition of these channels to our line-up ensures our customers can enjoy even more breaking news, gripping sports stories and insightful features in the stunning clarity of HD.

"This launch also means our customers can watch an unrivalled range of sports TV in HD, including every Sky Sports channel, BT Sport and ESPN."

Last month, Virgin Media added ten international channels to its television deals, for customers with an M+ TV subscription or above.

HUM Europe and Nollywood Movies can now be viewed on TiVo, while eight other channels - including 1+1 International, Nessma and Sic International - are available via the Worldbox portal.
