A new collaboration between Sony and YouView will see UK consumers gain access to the connected TV service through their television sets.
At present, consumers can buy a YouView set-top box or take out a BT or TalkTalk broadband bundle in order to access the Freeview and on-demand content platform.
But from 2015, they will also be able to purchase YouView-ready television sets, as the service enters the integrated TV market.
Sony’s new 2015 BRAVIA range will carry YouView, allowing consumers to enjoy Freeview channels, catch-up services and on-demand content via their broadband connection.
Richard Halton, Chief Executive of YouView, said the company is thrilled to announce "a major collaboration" with Sony on its first-ever project to make YouView available on TVs.
"This exciting partnership will create a deep integration of YouView’s functionality within the new Sony TV range, built on the Android platform," he explained.
"It will offer everything you’d expect from YouView, including our iconic seamless and easy-to-use TV guide, giving customers simple access to the live and catch up TV they love.”
John Anderson, Country Head of Sony UK and Ireland, claimed the way viewers watch television is changing, with consumers demanding a larger range of content and more flexibility and control.
He said Sony is "delighted" to be the first manufacturer in the UK to announce the addition of YouView to its range of TVs.
