spurs v southampton

The race for next season's European places is hotting up, and it could reach boiling point this Saturday April 25th in front of the BT Sport cameras at St Mary's.

Seventh-place Southampton play host to Tottenham Hotspur - a side just one point and one place above them in the Barclays Premier League table - in the lunchtime clash (kick-off 12:45pm).

The Saints will be desperate to make the UEFA Europa League places for 2015-16, after spending much of this season in the top four.

Ronald Koeman's side have dipped in form since Christmas, but still have a good chance of qualifying - particularly if Arsenal beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup final.

A UEFA rule change means that if the domestic cup winners have already qualified for Europe - as Arsenal and Capital One Cup winners Chelsea have - the extra places will revert to the league, rather than go to the beaten finalists.

Spurs have gone off the boil in recent weeks as the goals have dried up, firing blanks against Burnley and Aston Villa.

However, hot-shot Harry Kane was back on the scoresheet at the weekend in the 3-1 win away at Newcastle United.

BT Sport has plenty of other football lined up for the coming weekend, starting with Hamilton Academical v Motherwell from the Scottish Premiership at 7:45pm.

Saturday's schedule gets underway with the Hyundai A-League double: Western Sydney Wanderers v Perth Glory at 8am, followed by Adelaide United v Melbourne City at 10:30am.

On Saturday evening there is action from three top European leagues, as Bayern Munich face Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga (5:30pm), Bordeaux host FC Metz in Ligue 1 (7pm) and Inter Milan take on Roma in Serie A (7:45pm).

Two more games from Australia's top flight get Sunday underway, as Kiwi side Wellington Phoenix play Sydney FC at 6am and Melbourne Victory welcome the Central Coast Mariners at 8am.

Borussia Monchengladbach take on Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga at 4:30pm, before

Liverpool Ladies play Man City Women in the FA Women's Super League at 6pm.

Next up is Napoli v Sampdoria from Italy at 7:45pm, before more Ligue 1 action at 8pm with Reims v Lyon.
