Sky’s next-generation Sky Q home entertainment system is available to buy now, allowing viewers to watch TV across a range of devices more seamlessly than ever before. But at a price.

Unveiled last year when it was touted as bringing ‘Fluid Viewing’ to consumers for the first time ever, Sky Q is probably best described as an ecosystem of entertainment devices based around the Sky Q set top box.

As with Sky+ and Sky Go before it, Sky Q enables you to watch live, recorded and on-demand shows on the main Sky Q box or another TV or tablet.

However, its big innovation is how easy it is to resume shows on different devices and the chance to save your recordings on your tablet so you can access them remotely.

Its other major selling points are a revamped user interface with much slicker menus and smarter search and a revamped touchpad remote control. Later this year channels in ultra high resolution 4K will complete the picture.

Packages start from £42 per month, but go up to £100 or so per month if you want Sky’s premium sports and movies channels.

From today, it’s available to buy online or over the phone for new and existing Sky customers, with installations due to start at the end of the month. And as of Friday February 12th, it’s up for grabs from Sky’s 250 retail outlets.
