Virgin Media news

Virgin Media has continued to attract more broadband customers in recent months.

According to the company's latest trading statement, it added 70,400 broadband subscribers between January and March 2016.

This is up from the 69,000 increase it saw in the previous quarter and takes its overall number of broadband subscribers to 4.6 million.

Virgin Media also confirmed that 70,000 homes were added to its ultrafast broadband network as part of Project Lightning initiative during the first quarter of the year.

Project Lightning network expansion plans will see 17 million premises connected to the network by 2019 - and Virgin Media believes it is on track to add more than 500,000 premises throughout 2016.

Virgin Media recently announced its largest ever fibre rollout in the UK. The company confirmed it will connect fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) to at least a quarter of the four million extra homes and businesses that are being added to its ultrafast network.

This means that customers can expect to receive broadband speeds of up to 200Mbps.
