BT is gearing up to unveil its brand new Home Hub 6 device, a press invite suggests.

An invitation to a press event being staged by the internet service provider indicates that the Smart Hub, aka the Home Hub 6, will debut at the BT Tower in London on June 16th.

Precise details of the device are still thin on the ground at present, although this will be the first time BT has launched a new home broadband router in nearly three years.

Speculation is rife about what features it may boast. For instance, ISPreview believes it is "almost certain" that it will boast improved Wi-Fi capabilities and incorporate BT's Femtocell technology that has been in development for some time.

Furthermore, it has speculated about whether or not the router will support 300-500Mbps technology or be enhanced so it can cope with 100Mbps FTTP lines.

Meanwhile, TechRadar believes the Home Hub 6 will "massively boost the mobile convergence of a merged BT/EE" following its takeover of the mobile phone network.

This, it said, will help it move towards its long-standing goal of "providing a converged telecommunications solution".
