Sky Sports subscribers can follow The Open golf championship through multiple digital platforms this year.

The provider is promising round the clock digital coverage of the flagship sporting event, which commenced today (July 14th) at Royal Troon.

For example, it is offering live streaming on, Sky Sports for Smartphone, the red button and the new enhanced live Open service for iPad.

Sky Sports' coverage will also include up to 20 real time clips on Twitter each day, behind the scenes access with a social media reporter and a live online blog.

Furthermore, near-live clips will be posted on both and Sky Sports for Smartphone, while video on demand clips and multi-feeds can be accessed via Sky Q.

David Gibbs, Digital Director at Sky Sports, commented: "There is a huge appetite from sports fans to access action wherever they are, particularly among the under-25s. With 94 per cent now owning a smartphone, they are a generation who are always on and we want to meet their demand for sport.

"Our first ever Open coverage across social media, online and TV will give fans the opportunity to follow the tournament whenever and wherever they are."

Golf fans can enjoy all four Majors and the Ryder Cup on Sky Sports, while non-subscribers can follow the action via Now TV.

This offers access to all seven sport channels for £6.99 per day, while weekly passes cost £10.99.
