Virgin Media's ultrafast broadband network is now available to up to 4,900 homes and businesses in Margate and Ramsgate.
According to the network provider, the infrastructure upgrade will give people in the area access to speeds of up to 350Mbps.
This, it said, will transform the quality of local broadband, where the average download speed had previously stood at just 19.3Mbps.
Virgin Media stated that with a 350Mbps connection, households will be able to download a standard HD movie file (5GB) in about two minutes. This compares with more than 38 minutes on the average local connection at present.
Similarly, the time it takes to download a 25GB console game will fall from more than three hours to just over ten minutes.
The gigabit-capable lines will also enable local people to sign up to Virgin TV and use its 4K-ready V6 set-top box.
As a result, residents will be able to access up to 260 TV channels, including up to 50 HD channels, Sky Movies, Netflix and all the football from Sky Sports and BT Sports, as well as an extensive selection of box sets and movies.
Cormac Connolly, Regional Director at Virgin Media, commented: "We are delighted that local residents and businesses across Margate and Ramsgate can now start to benefit from the boost our ultrafast broadband will give them."
Mr Connolly added that giving people in Margate and Ramsgate faster broadband speeds will enable them to "do the things they need to do and love doing more quickly and more easily".
