When Sony released the long-awaited PlayStation 5 in November last year, avid gamers were scrambling to get their hands on the console. But pre-orders quickly sold out, and PS5 fans were stuck in long online queues, only to find there were no PS5s left in stock.
To this day, new stock has been hard to find, as Sony struggles with supply problems, a global shortage of semiconductors and, of course, a worldwide pandemic. That’s why it’s such big news when UK retailers restock, especially with a wealth of new PS5 games expected in the coming months.
Jim Ryan, Sony’s CEO, told The Financial Times, “The pace of the improvement in the supply chain will gather throughout the course of the year. By the time we get to the second half of [2021], you’re going to be seeing really decent numbers indeed.”
In August alone, 15 UK retailers have released stock, with an influx of available units including Game, John Lewis & Partners, Smyths Toys, Very, Asda, Amazon, ShopTo and Argos.

In the past few weeks, retailers have dropped stock, sometimes more than once. Recently, we saw Game join the restocking race with six drops in a week. Meanwhile, Currys posted on its website saying, "Want to bring home a brand-new PS5 today? We've got a bunch of PlayStation 5 disk bundles in selected stores right now.
"And to make it fair to everyone, we're limited it to one PS5 per person. Plus, don't forget to ask in-store about our PlayStation trade-in and flexible credit deals."
Unfortunately there aren’t yet any specific details on just how to order, but it’s important to remember that these units will only be available in specific stores, so check the full list here to avoid disappointment when rushing to your local store.
