EE came into being in 2010 when T-Mobile and Orange merged in the UK to form Everything Everywhere. The merger enabled mobile phone customers of the networks to use both networks, thus giving them a stronger, better mobile data connection in more locations across the UK.
In 2012, the company rebranded as EE and launched a 4G network, thus becoming the first UK network to offer the technology. At launch, this was initially available in only 10 cities: Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield.
4G from EE now covers 70% of the UK's population and is set to expand into more rural areas in months to come. EE broadband speed tests confirm it is the UK's fastest 4G connection.
The EE fibre home broadband service is based on BT's nationwide Infinity network. EE broadband deals feature headline speeds of up to 76Mbps in areas where BT's network has been upgraded.
EE employs 11,000 customer service and retail employees across the UK and claims its service centre teams have over 86 million conversations with customers annually.
The company has an extensive help section online, or subscribers who want to speak directly to an expert at one of the provider’s customer centres can call them from 8am to 8pm on weekdays, or 8am until 6pm on weekends. If customers are calling outside those hours (between 8pm and 10pm on weekdays, or 6pm and 8pm on weekends), a premium charge applies.
EE also operates a service for customers on Twitter and Facebook.
All EE home broadband customers are provided with a free Bright Box router. Equipped with wireless N technology, this offers a range of 250m within the home and is security protected to keep your connection safe.
EE broadband customers can get a mobile data boost of an extra 5GB per month, if they subscribe to both broadband and mobile from EE. This applies to pay monthly or SIM-only data packages.
