As part of the Admiral Group, Bell car insurance is backed by a well-known name in the industry with a long history of providing insurance in the UK. Bell is specifically geared towards young drivers as it is based on telematics (black box) technology and younger, inexperienced drivers can benefit from their discount based on a three month driving record.
Bell’s black box is unlike those offered by other companies in that discounts are applicable after three months’ satisfactory driving. After that, your premiums won’t go up no matter your driving score and you are not restricted by curfews which could affect your driving score if you are out after a stated time. At the end of the three month time period, drivers become eligible for discounts or cashback offers.
Unlike other black boxes, Bell’s version is a Plug and Drive device. If you should change vehicles, simply unplug the unit and carry it over to the new vehicle. However, you should be aware that anyone driving your car will influence your personal driving score as there is no way to ascertain who is behind the wheel. If you choose to let someone drive your car, they should be named on your policy as a driver and should be cognisant of the fact that they can have an impact on your score.
The company will keep you updated on your skills as a driver via email and they pledge not to increase your premiums based on those skills during the contracted policy period.
Bell’s black box technology can be seen as an incentive to help young drivers improve their skills as well as a ways to fast-track discounts usually only available to more experienced drivers.
