EDF Energy Blue + Price Promise is back!

EDF Energy's Blue + Price Promise is back! But things have changed...

EDF Energy's Blue Energy Price Promise 2013

EDF Energy re-launches Blue + Price Promise and still has no exit fees, but with a heftier price tag attached

Energy supplier EDF Energy is re-launching its popular Blue + Price Promise Plan tomorrow, which will allow customers to fix their energy prices until May 2014.

But times have changed – the new plan is £89 more expensive than its predecessor – and the new plan is nowhere near the cheapest plan available.

It costs £1,143 a year for the average dual-fuel customer, but still comes without exit penalties so you can switch again in the future should a better deal come along. It’s only the second fixed price plan currently available that doesn’t carry exit fees.

However, the other plan – ScottishPower’s Online Fixed Price Energy March 2014 – is £44 a year cheaper at £1,099 on average, although its price protection also ends three months earlier.

The new EDF Energy plan comes onto the market only two days after First Utility launched the cheapest overall and the chepest fixed plans on the market – the iSave v12 and the iSave Fixed V4. The iSave Fixed V4 is the cheapest fixed plan on the market with an annual bill of £1,087, but with exit fees of £30 per fuel.

What we say

Tom Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch said: “EDF Energy’s Blue + Price Promise is making a welcome return, albeit with a heftier price tag. It’s good news that consumers now have a choice of fixed plans without exit penalties again, but at £89 a year more, those who missed the boat the first time round will be shocked at the higher price.

“The cost of fixed price plans is creeping upwards. It’s also unusual for consumers to be able to benefit from a price guarantee without an exit penalty. The fact is that these deals will not hang around for long, so consumers need to act now.”
