Sky Mobile is currently giving away a free return flight to a choice of 30 European destinations for customers who buy a new phone or tablet, as part of time-limited promotion.
Sounds good, no? But surely there’s a catch? How do you qualify? What phones and tablets are included? We take a close look at the offer and answer all your questions.
Considering Sky Mobile? Here’s the ten key things you need to know.
What’s on offer exactly?
Sky Mobile pledges there are "hundreds of thousands" of free flights up for grabs from lastminute.com. The maximum value of the flight you can claim is £100 and you’ll be given a voucher to cover it.
You can fly to 30 of the most popular destinations in Europe, including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Greece, Croatia, and Malta. Flights depart from 20 airports across the UK.
Winningly, there’s also an option to take a friend or family member with you, with the ceanch to buy a second voucher for £89. Want to bring more than one person with you? You can do that. And once again a charge of £89 per passenger applies.
One caveat worth noting is that you can’t use the voucher to book a flight to another destination in the UK. So that rules out a weekend citybreak to Edinburgh, say.
But if you’re anything like us, you’re probably planning to use the token to head somewhere further afield and altogether sunnier, anyway.
Think you're going to switch to Sky Mobile? Use the switching tool below and we'll walk you through the process step-by-step:
Does 'free' really mean free, though?
Your flight booking includes taxes, supplements and administrative charges. So, there's nothing extra to pay there.
What it doesn't include is optional extras that you may want to add, CF: airport transfer, checked luggage, travel insurance and in-flight meals.
How long does the free-flights offer last?
To qualify for free passage to a vacation hotspot, you’ll need to buy your shiny new gadget on a Sky Mobile Swap plan between 1st June and 5th July 2018.
Do existing Sky customers qualify for the giveaway?
New and existing customers are entitled to a free flight. Which is something of a novelty as far as these kind of promotions go, with network typically reserving their incentives exclusively for new customers.
So the good news is that you can still get a free flight if you’re already a Sky broadband, TV or mobile phone customer.
Which phones and tablets are bundled with free flights?
Free flights are included with all new tablets and all new phones purchased on Sky Mobile’s Swap contracts.
Phones bundled with free flights include:
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone SE
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy S9
- Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy S8
- Sony Xperia XZ2
- Sony Xperia XZ Premium
- Sony Xperia XA 2
Compare phone and buy deals for iPhones, Samsung Galaxy handsets and more on Sky Mobile.
Tablets bundled with free flights include:
- iPad Pro (10.5”)
- iPad Pro (12.9”)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A (7”)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A (10.1”)
I just want a Sky Mobile SIM, though. Do I qualify?
Alas, you do not. The free-flights offer only applies on plans bundled with a phone or a tablet.
As you might expect, you’re not entitled to the free flight if you buy an accessory from Sky Mobile either.
How do I claim my free flight from lastminute.com?
As intimated above, when you complete your purchase you’ll receive a confirmation email.
When the phone or tablet arrives, the box will contain a voucher bearing a 13-digit Registration Code. Your job is to head to the dedicated free flights site, where you can register your details and input your Registration Code before 31/08/2018. In return, you'll get a unique booking code.
Done that? Good news, you can now select and book a flight using a dedicated search engine. You’ll find that here: Sky Mobile. Make sure you book the ticket before the end of 2018, or you'll miss out.
Most of Sky-lastminute.com’s airline partners will allow you to book a flight for travel up to ten months in advance. So you can travel on a free flight up until October 2019.
Does Sky Mobile’s roaming policy cover the destination I want to fly to?
Sky Mobile's inclusive roaming policy takes in 36 locations, in which you can use your UK allowances for no extra charge.
These include the likes of Spain, Greece, Germany, Croatia, Malta and more. You can see the full list of destinations covered by Sky Mobile’s Roaming Passport scheme with our one-stop guide.
What’s Sky Mobile got to offer?
Sky’s mobile phone service is based on O2’s nationwide network and offers 98% UK population coverage.
Sky Mobile plans aren’t the cheapest around. But its service stands out largely for its value-adding extras.
Not least of which is the 'Roll' data rollover sweetener. This lets you roll over unused data and stash it in a virtual piggybank to use whenever you like.
Customers can also change their data allowance up or down from month to month to suit their needs.
And if you’re a Sky TV customer, you also qualify for Sky Go Extra for free to allow you to stream TV shows on your device without using any data. And you can download shows to watch offline.
Sky Swap contracts also allow you to upgrade to a new phone or tablet at designated points in the contract term, while retaining the same contract.
With Swap 12 contracts, for instance, you’re eligible to upgrade to a new handset after 12 months.
