Our best SIM-only deals you can buy right now

SIM cards

More and more people are opting to buy a new handset outright or choosing to keep hold of their phone after they’ve paid it off, and then get a SIM-only deal. This can work out much cheaper than a standard phone contract.

It will give you more flexibility too, as you can choose either a 12-month contract, a 1-month contract or even no contract at all instead of the traditional 24-month phone contract.

But what kind of SIM-only deal should you go for? Whether you want a lorry-load of data or just enough to get by, we’ve got you covered with our round-up of our best deals available at the moment.

iD Mobile

If you want a decent allowance of calls, texts and data for under £10 a month, iD Mobile is definitely worth a look.

Our favourite plan is this uSwitch exclusive deal. For just £8 a month, you’ll get 1,000 minutes, 5,000 calls and a generous 3GB of data. Unless you’re a very heavy smartphone user, this will probably be more than enough to get you through each month. And if you have any data leftover at the end of the month, you can roll it over and add it onto next month’s allowance.

It’s a 1-month rolling contract too, so you can cancel it at any time without being landed with a huge bill.

  • 1-month contract
  • uSwitch exclusive
  • Data rollover
  • 1000 mins, 5000 texts and 3GB for £8 a month

Freedom Pop

FreedomPop is what’s called a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) network, which means you make calls and texts over the internet. That’s in contrast to the likes of Vodafone and EE which, more conventionally, use a cellular network to transmit radio signals that allow you to make calls and send texts.

As long as you’re aware of this and you’re happy with the 3G and 4G coverage in your area, FreedomPop is a pretty good bet. Not least because its SIM-only deals work out pretty cheap.

Our selection bags you monthly allowances of 1.25GB, 1250 texts and 1250 call minutes for £4.99 per month. And because there’s no contract, it’s flexible and you can roll over any unused data from month to month for a small charge.

  • No contract
  • 1.25GB, 1,250 minutes and 1,250 texts for £4.99 per month
  • iPhone and Android only
  • Uses Three’s network
