New Year's Eve is just around the corner and the pressure is on to plan the perfect night.
Are you going out to a party? Are you having a quiet night in with family or friends? Or are you still making your mind up?
Whatever your plans for New Year, we've got you covered with some great apps that will help you enjoy the biggest night of the year.
1. New Year Countdown
2017 is almost here! Want to know how exactly how close it is? Download a New Year Countdown app and find out.
So, if you’re super excited about 2017, or if you’re a celebrity wanting to know how long you’ve got before you’re safe from the Curse of 2016, this app will count down the seconds until the New Year is here.
Download a New Year Countdown for free on Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store.
Want to avoid paying well over-the-odds for drinks in overcrowded pubs and clubs this New Year? Stay home and become your own mixologist instead.
Mixology has nearly 8,000 drink and cocktail recipes to choose from and a stack of bartending tips to make you look like a pro. You can also search for drinks that use whatever liquor you have in your cupboard, so you don't even have to go outside.
Get Mixology for free from Google Play or Apple’s App Store.
Whether you’re showing off your new-found mixology skills or you’re getting tipsy in a pub or club, it’s probably sensible to keep track of how much alcohol you’re drinking.
Drinkaware is a free app that will let you track how many units you’re consuming. It’s not fun but it will help keep you safe.
Drinkaware is available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
This is a pretty obvious one, but getting anywhere on New Year’s Eve can be a bit of a nightmare. Uber makes booking a taxi for you and your friends really quick and easy, so you don't need to worry about how you'll get home at the end of the night.
Download Uber for free on Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
If you’re in London, Bristol or Dublin this NYE, YPlan will tell you what’s going on nearby. From comedy clubs and high-end shows to parties and pub-crawls, YPlan has you covered with reviews, prices and tickets.
Get the YPlan for free on Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
6. IFTTT- schedule midnight messages
Pre-smartphones, when Big Ben chimed midnight, all you needed to do was pull a party-popper, down your drink, kiss your crush and yell ‘Happy New Year’ in sync with everyone else.
Nowadays, however, you've got to do all that and also update social media, text loved ones and snap a selfie. It’s exhausting.
IFTTT (which stands for ‘If This Then That’, in case you were wondering) will let you schedule all your New Year tweets and posts. So, you can programme it to send all your social messages at midnight, leaving you free to party without your phone in your hand.
Get IFTTT for free on Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
7. Secret DJ
When you’re on a night out, the DJ can make or break your evening.
But you don’t have to get your New Year off to a bad start with some dodgy music. Secret DJ will let you take over the music at participating venues and replace those cheesy tunes with your own playlist.
Secret DJ is available for free on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Seriously, with all the stuff you need to cram into your tiny evening bag, you’ve got to take every opportunity you can to save space in your purse.
Download the Mirror app and you can leave your compact at home. With an on-screen zoom option and a lighting control function, it’s actually even more useful than your regular pocket-mirror.
So, you can do your make-up in the taxi over to the party and check your hair part-way through the evening without having to carry a mirror with you.
Get Mirror for free at Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store.
Connect with loved ones on New Year’s Eve from anywhere in the world. If you have friends and family living in different countries, you can use Skype to see in the New Year with the people you love in several different time zones.
Download Skype for free from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
10. New Year Photo Frames 2017
Make your last photos of 2016 and your first selfies of 2017 extra special with some New Year frames.
Use the frames to jazz up your Facebook and Instagram posts, or just give yourself something fun to do when you're feeling worse-for-wear on New Year's Day.
You can download New Year Photo Frames for free at Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store.
