INQ has scooped the award for best handset at the Mobile World Congress, despite stiff competition from Nokia and BlackBerry.
The INQ 1 beat off challenges from the BlackBerry Storm, Nokia E71, T-Mobile G1 and the LG KS360 to take the prize for best mobile handset or device at the expo in Barcelona.
INQ’s phone’s triumph is believed to have been strongly influenced by its relative low-cost and array of modish social networking features which saw it become known as the world’s first Facebook phone.
Frank Meehan, chief executive officer of INQ Mobile, said: “The way people communicate has evolved, but mass market devices have remained anchored to just voice and text. INQ set out to change this.
“We are proud of having introduced Social Mobile to the market and very honoured that our first device has received such recognition.”
The INQ 1 also stood out among other smartphones for offering one-touch access to Skype, Last FM and Windows Live Messenger.
