An ITN news, entertainment and sports reports application for the iPhone has been downloaded by more 45,000 people, it has been confirmed.
The application is free of charge and can be downloaded directly from the App store, allowing iPhone owners to watch clips of the news provider’s coverage on their handset.
Its popularity has exploded in the last ten days in which time it has been the most downloaded news application available for the iPhone.
Ave Wrigley, head of new media technical strategy and development for ITN, told the Guardian: "On all the platforms we've developed for, we've tended away from subscriptions to advertising-funded models.
“It makes commercial sense to use advertising because it is a much more easily renewable income."
Ms Wrigley added that the company is also planning an updated version of the application, which will afford users access to more reports and could support geo-tagging of news.
The service also features an offline function which lets users read stories when an internet connection is not available.
