O2 has secured exclusive UK rights to sell the Palm Pre in the UK, according to a Spanish newspaper.
A report from Expansion claims that O2 has already signed a deal to be the sole network to carry the handset in the UK, Spain and Latin America.
The news will come as a surprise to many mobile industry experts who had predicted that Vodafone, which has a long-established relationship with Palm, would be the UK carrier.
A spokesman from O2, which is also the only UK network to offer the iPhone, has refused to confirm or deny Expansion’s report and instead reiterated that it is the company’s policy to try and secure the best handsets available.
He told Techradar: "Our device strategy operates on the principle that the proposition has to be right and it has to add value for the customer. As part of that, we go for the best in class of any category of handset.
“We have made no announcement on this particular handset"
The Palm Pre is expected to be launched this summer.
