Nokia’s N-Gage mobile gaming service is enjoying burgeoning growth, according to a representative of the Finnish mobile phone giant.
A spokesperson from Nokia has told the Reuters news agency that N-Gage has exploded in popularity thanks to the decision to pre-install it on the company’s mid-range and high-end mobile phones.
The representative did not reveal the number of users that the service now has, but did say that one million players have now created personal profiles on the N-Gage community online.
This compares with the 400,000 who had created personal profiles in October last year.
Nokia is currently encouraging games manufacturers to bring more advanced games to N-Gage, such as those that use motion sensitive controls as well as the other functions of its handsets such as GPS.
News of developments at Nokia comes as the company gears up to launch its Ovi store, which will sell applications for its top of the range mobile phones.
