Thousands of pounds worth of prizes are currently on offer in a competition running at Apple’s iPhone App Store, as the company’s hugely popular software market closes in on the milestone of its one billionth download.
The competition offers participants the chance to win a host of prizes, including an iTunes gift card worth $10,000 (£6,700), a MacBook Pro, an iPod Touch and a Time Capsule.
Visitors to the site are automatically enrolled in the contest, which is open to anyone aged 13 or over, when they download an application.
The competition applies to free applications as well as paid-for software, with entrants entitled to download up to 25 apps per day, thus giving them multiple chances to win.
Apple’s iPhone App Store is currently the focus of a multi-million TV and print advertising campaign.
The spots heavily feature popular applications such as Tiptotaler, which enables users to calculate their share of restaurant bills, and the Bloomberg application that gives access to market-moving financial news and share price indices.
There are currently around 25,000 applications on offer at the App Store.
