Junior developer taps into demand for iPhone games

The music-themed game Tap Tap Revenge has bucked the odds to become the most popular app for iPhones so far.

According to reports, the game’s developer Tapulous has beat out competition from much larger companies to scoop the accolade for most downloaded app among more than 15,000 currently available for the iPhone.

The success of Tap Tap Revenge has been so marked that it accounts for one out of three every apps downloaded by the iPhone’s customer base of 15 million.

comScore's vice president Brian Jurutka said: "It's impressive that a game like Tapulous's Tap Tap Revenge can attract a higher penetration among Apple app users than apps for larger more established brands.

"Tap Tap's success demonstrates that there is ample opportunity in the app space for any publisher to obtain significant distribution with a product that engages users."

Tapulous is now working on an application themed around multi-million selling UK band Coldplay.

Of the 25 most in-demand applications for iPhones, 12 were games with FlipSide 5's Touch Hockey: FS5 and Pac-Man proving particularly popular.
