T-Mobile planning second Android phone

T-Mobile has confirmed that it is to release another Android-powered mobile phone this year.

The announcement of a second T-Mobile-branded Android handset follows the spectacular success of the current model, the T-Mobile G1.

According to the network, this has now sold 100,000 units in the six months it has been on the market in the UK.

Richard Warmsley, head of internet and entertainment at T-Mobile, told Mobile Today: “Sales of the T-Mobile G1 have exceeded our expectations – we are very excited to hit the milestone of 100,000 units sold in just over six months.

“We’re looking forward to launching another groundbreaking phone on Android later this year.”

It is thought that the new phone will employ the upgraded edition of the Android operating system, which has been dubbed Android 1.5.

This adds a range of features to the initial version, including video recording and playback.

Android mobile phones, including the forthcoming HTC Magic and the I7500 from Samsung, are expected to some of the biggest selling handsets this year.
