Motorola has unveiled the Clutch i465, a new rugged handset designed to resist shocks, vibration, dust and even solar radiation.
Motorola’s latest entry into the rugged mobile phone market will see it go head-to-head with rival handsets such as highly successful JCB Tough and the Sony Ericsson C702.
As well as its durable design, the Clutch i465 will feature a full Qwerty keyboard, intended to make entering text easier than with a standard keypad, as well as an innovative Instant Messaging-style SMS function.
Weighing in at just 96g,the new handset is expected to begin shipping during the second quarter of this year.
News of Motorola’s release schedule for 2009 comes after it recently unveiled plans to market the forthcoming Motorola Aura phone with a high-profile advertising campaign featuring David Beckham.
Television spots for the Aura, which is home to what is claimed to be the “world’s first circular screen”, will show the former England captain as a Terminator-style robot.
