Suggestions that Sony Ericsson is set to discontinue some of its most popular ranges of mobile phone are ill-founded, a company spokesman has claimed.
Earlier this week Marketing Magazine reported that the manufacturer was poised to drop the ranges to allow it to focus on its “entertainment unlimited” concept instead.
However, a spokesman has refuted the claims in a statement, in which he drew attention to forthcoming phones due this year as evidence that the ranges will remain a crucial part of the company’s product portfolio.
He told Mobile News: “We do not plan to drop Walkman and Cybershot branded devices from our portfolio in the UK.
“At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February we announced our intention to combine the best of experiences from Walkman and Cybershot into more entertainment focused handsets. The first of these is a handset announced as Idou.”
Among Sony Ericsson’s current range of Cybershot phones are the K660i and the K530i.
