In a new study of iPhone application developers conducted by Adam Martin, over half of the 85 teams who participated admitted that they earned less than $10,000 (£9,300) by selling their wares on the online market. More shocking still, however, is that around a third of those quizzed said that they had seen a return of less than $250 (£152).
Of course among some of those that are making money, the rewards can be vast. The top one per cent of earners had amassed between $500,000 and $2 million (£305,000 and £1.2 million). But it’s now clear that these are the exception rather than the norm.
