Nokia brings wireless charging to mobile phones

Nokia has unveiled its most eco-friendly handset yet – in the form of a new mobile phone that recharges via ambient radiowaves.

Dubbed the Nokia 3110 Evolve, the prototype mobile phone is home to technology that harnesses electromagnetic radiation from televisions and radios converts it into electrical current.

As a result, the Evolve can be powered without ever needing to be charged into the electricity mains.

Nokia, which appears to be increasingly targeting the market for green mobile phones, is planning to bring the handset to market within the next three years.

Earlier this month, two new Nokia handsets, the C901 GreenHeart and the Naite, were sighted which the manufacturer claims both have a carbon footprint 15 per cent smaller than standard mobile telephones.

This has been achieved through the use of recycled materials in their manufacture and by cutting down on packaging.

Other forthcoming high-profile handsets due from Nokia include the N97 and the 6700.
